Sonia is a Hawkes Bay artist who paints in an abstract-realistic style – colours and many layers that take themselves in their own direction.
Her latest series draws inspiration from the natural world and tends towards a more abstract expression of its shapes and form. There is a sense of abundance – of shapes spilling into, and out of the canvas. Works portray order and chaos, and their inability to exist without the other.
“I trust intuition to find balance and a composition that will eventually work. And there has to be colour – I want people to experience some crazy, beautiful colour happiness.”
