John Goodhind lives in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay and is an artist who works in a variety of media. His current interest is in watercolour and the urban landscape.
John studied art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury (UK) and studied he also studied design in Staffordshire. He also teaches art and design at Taradale High School. Since moving to New Zealand in 2006, he has exhibited locally and at the New Zealand Art Show.
Although his subject matter and media vary with his interests, John has painted in watercolour since childhood, and the works shown here represent a return he made to the medium in recent years.
Watercolour is a challenge: it demands a forthright approach, and a keen observation of shape and tone to capture the essence of the subject. For John, it is the perfect medium for his interest in capturing the light and character of the New Zealand rural and built environment.
