Jo Gallagher

Living in the rural King Country settlement of Piopio, provides Jo with rich visual and personal influences.

Jo’s work is characterised by a deep reverence for the natural world. Jo has explored many aspects of her surroundings over the years but more recently has begun to add another layer of interest into her compositions – that of humour!

Often inspiration is drawn from words or a phrase in the English language and the concept for the painting develops from there. Alongside the symbolism and fantasy there is a meticulous attention to detail as she builds up layer upon layer of paint. The characters she is best able to represent, the fun there is to be had with language, symbolism and entrenched beliefs are all present in her most recent body of painting.
