RoOm is the artist name of Jason Courtis, a Christchurch-born photographer / artist, and winner of the 2017 NZ Art Show Signature Art Award.
Jason was Wellington-based for 19 years, but now resides in Gisborne, Turanganui-a-kiwa. He’s interested in the anonymity that photography brings as when you take a photo, people focus on the image and the camera, not the artist behind it.
He likes the idea of the artist being invisible, and letting the camera do the work. Jason loves the personal vision that photography brings out. He also captures solitude and isolation in his images, travelling to remote and unknown locations to photograph at dusk, dark or low-light.
