Harriet’s interests are the human figure, nature and classical portraiture. She use models in over-exaggerated poses to enhance the romantic theme of her artworks.
Harriet is heavily inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites; in particular, Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with their style of dramatising a traditional portrait painting. Their works show abundant detail, intense colours, rich patterns and complex compositions based on Italian art.
Harriet completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Whitecliffe College of Art & Design, Auckland in 2016 and her Teaching Diploma at Massey University, Palmerston North in 2017. Harriet is currently teaching Visual Art and Painting at Napier Girls’ High School and resides in beautiful, historic Norsewood, in Southern Hawke’s Bay.
