Ricks Terstappen resides in Hawke’s Bay, where he contributes to New Zealand culture as one of the region’s most celebrated artists.
Wood, steel and the ready-made are his materials of choice. The sculptural works, sometimes created from objects found in our daily lives, are transformed into visual commentary that is often comical, sometimes political and always thought provoking.
His work can be seen in large-scale public sculpture as well as held in many private collections. His particular philosophy and style has led to many collaborative works with other artists but he maintains his distinct autonomy by regularly exhibiting in national and international shows.
